Just Fishin'

And {he} thinks we’re just fishin’ on the riverside
Throwin’ back what we could fry
Drownin’ worms and killin’ time
Nothin’ too ambitious
{He} ain’t even thinkin’ ‘bout
What’s really goin’ on right now
But I guarantee this memory’s a big’in
And {he} thinks we’re just fishin’

{Trace Adkins - Just Fishin'}

Happy Daddy's Day!
Thanks for all of the fun memories.
We love you.
Forever and Ever.
Amen.

Transform

A friend of ours {Alekzander's} had a Transformers/Autobots party today.

Alekzander doesn't know anything about the Transformers nor do I.
{Poor kid leads such a deprived life!}
He was pretty excited about the pinata though and gave it a few good whacks.

The party favor was a bag of yummy Autobot parts ...
like a Rice Krispie treat, giant and small marshmallows,
M&Ms, smarties, pretzel rods, and gummy worms.
Blindly we attempted to make a car-type thing.

According to Alekzander's standards, we did a pretty good job.

About an hour later, we knew we needed to have a good dinner
to detox after eating sweets at the party.
Dark greens salad, fresh mozzarella and tomato with balsamic and homegrown basil,
turkey burgers on a pretzel roll for me and Andrew,
and a ham and mozzarella sandwich for Alekzander.

Alekzander has been in to "dips" lately.
Last night's dip was home-infused rosemary olive oil.
Tonight's dip was balsamic vinegar with rosemary oil.
All elements of his sandwich were dipped,
then came the pepper slices, tomatoes, and carrots.

On his own, Alekzander decided to build a Transformer
with the remaining components of his dinner.
Daddy made it "rain" more dip ... and then the whole tower was devoured.
{We then got to talk about the meaning of "transform"
because I told him his food would be transformed into energy ...
and what little boy doesn't want MORE energy when channeled appropriately!}

We LOVE that he has such a strange an advanced palate for a three year old.
Not many others would refuse to eat pizza at a party and then come home
and eat a plate full of veggies, mozzarella, and balsamic "dip".
Or admit that blueberries are better than candy.

I hope his eating habits don't transform anytime soon.

Vocab Boy

Quite a while ago, Andrew jokingly called Alekzander "Vocab Boy" to which Alekzander replied with a joking lilt in his voice, "You're not a cowboy!"

Not surprisingly, his vocabulary continues to increase daily ...
some of the things he comes up with boggle our mind!
These words and phrases have peppered our conversations lately:

observation

drenched, soaked in reference to get caught in a downpour
while walking to lunch in Blakeney with our friends.

"I think I have a better plan."

"That freak-ed me out!" in reference to Anderson moving around in my belly.
He has claimed to have felt him move before, but this time,
without a doubt, he felt his little brother!

 signal {like turn signal or a sound/call to get someone's attention}

"Daddy was not paying attention."
...when I asked him why Daddy said, "Woah" when I was at work
and they were on their way to meet me.
Apparently Daddy was paying attention though!

Emphatically, "I know, I can buy a walkie talkie and talk to you during my nap!"
Perfect, sweet boy.

Or ... as an excuse not to nap, "I have some things to do.
I need to organize before Anderson comes."
{I guess my nesting is rubbing off!}

He can sing the Days of the Week song {correctly!} most of the time.

Smart enough to know which 'excuses' will or will not work at bed time.
Tonight he went through a few excuses/reasons ... he started to say that he needed water,
but realized he already had some, then tried telling me he needed
certain stuffed animals and finally landed on being "scared of the dark"
even though he had just observed that it looked like the sun
was coming back out after the storm.

He is such a smart, funny, and
 silly little boy ...
in my not so humble opinion.

Countdown to Baby Anderson

With a three and a half year old,
its hard to explain that the baby is coming ...
just not yet!

We decided to do a calendar countdown beginning in June,
and now Alekzander understands a little better
that we have to fill up all of the days for almost 2 whole months!

He gets to color/draw in each day when he wakes up.
So far it is a big hit thanks to new markers Daddy brought home,
and he no longer asks me if Anderson is coming tonight -
or if I will be at the "hopstible" when he wakes up.
{I HOPE NOT!!!}

The days are going by quickly!

A Different Love

Watching your husband love on your son ... priceless.

Advice/lessons from a mom to her daughter
who has made the decision to grow her family:
{Excerpt discovered on FB 6.6.13 - Anonymous}

Looking at my attractive daughter, I want to assure her that eventually she will shed the pounds of pregnancy, but she will never feel the same about herself.

That her life, now so important, will be of less value to her once she has a child. That she would give herself up in a moment to save her offspring, but will also begin to hope for more years, not to accomplish her own dreams, but to watch her child accomplish theirs.

I want her to know that a cesarean scar or shiny stretch marks will become badges of honor.

My daughter's relationship with her husband will change, but not in the way she thinks.

I wish she could understand how much more you can love a man who is careful to powder the baby or who never hesitates to play with his child.

I think she should know that she will fall in love with him again for reasons she would now find very unromantic.

Truth.
